Dong Wang is a Professor in the School of Information Sciences and School of Computing and Data Science (affiliated) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests lie in the area of social sensing, intelligence and computing, human-centered AI, and big data analytics. His research has resulted in computing systems and software tools with applications in academia, industry, and government research labs. He has authored three books: Social Intelligence (Springer, 2025), Social Edge Computing (Springer, 2023), and Social Sensing (Elsevier, 2015). He is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award, Google Faculty Research Award, ARO Young Investigator Program (YIP), Best Paper Awards from ASONAM 2022 and IEEE RTAS, and a Best Paper Honorable Mention from ACM CHI 2025 and IEEE SmartComp 2022. He serves as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Big Data, Frontiers in Big Data, and the Social Network Analysis and Mining Journal, and is an IEEE Senior Member and ACM and AAAI Member.
